PERSONAL HISTORY

My name is John Stroud, I was born and raised in Texas. I am 25 years old. I worked 2 jobs to put myself through school and have always been a very hard worker. I got married in the fall of 1996 and live close to Texas Christian University where I received a B.A. in Geology. I am back at TCU working on my M.S degree in Geology with an emphasis on carbonates and petroleum geology. I have worked full "part-time" for Union Pacific Resources in Ft. Worth, Texas as a intern development geologist in the West Texas Business Unit. I have two dogs and enjoy all types of hunting and shooting sports, fishing, golf, scuba diving, water and snow skiing.

GRADUATE STUDIES

I entered the master's program at TCU in the fall of 1996. I currently have a 3.9 GPA and am looking at a June 1998 graduation date. At the end of the Fall 1997 semester I will have 4 hours left to complete along with my thesis. My thesis is pretty exciting for those of you who appreciate carbonate reservoirs and their impact on the petroleum industry. The thesis is on Pennsylvanian "Waulsortian"-type bryozoan mounds in the Permian basin. As you out there may or may not know, bryozoan mounds have never been described in the Pennsylvanian in Texas to the best of my knowledge. My thesis committee includes two GREATS in the carbonate world, Dr. R. Nowell Donovan, Dr. Dave Eby along with the computer guru and invertebrate paleontologist, Dr. Arthur Busbey.

To date I have taken.....
Basic Seismics (Dr. John Breyer)
Seismic Interpretation (Dr. John Breyer)
Sedimentology-- Depositional Systems (Dr. John Breyer)
Sedimentary Facies Analysis (Dr. R. Nowell Donovan)
Carbonate Petrology (Dr. Donovan)
Advanced Geographic Information Systems (Dr. Ken Morgan)
Remote Sensing (Dr. Ken Morgan)
Seminar-- Reef Building Assemblages of the Pennsylvanian (Dr. Richard Hanson)
Seminar-- Waulsortian Mounds (Dr. Donovan)
Seismic Stratigraphy (Dr. John Breyer)
Advanced Map Interpretation (Dr. R. Nowell Donovan)
THESIS

UNDERGRADUATE SENIOR THESIS

I wrote a senior thesis entitled, Depositional and Diagenetic Environment of the Sonora Sands, Ozona Field, Crockett County, Texas. This work was undertaken to receive credit for the county wide regional study of the Sonora Sands while I was an intern at Union Pacific Resources. I have since given this talk at the AAPG Mid-Continent meeting in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in August. The paper is published in the TRANSACTIONS from the meeting.

WORK SKILLS

The experience I have received at UPR is invaluable. I have done regional studies, basin-wide studies, reservoir analysis, frontier mapping, vertical development geology and horizontal operational geology as well as identifying old fields for horizontal re-development. I am literate with both the PC and Unix operating systems and able to use various computer based geological applications such as; Geographix, Geoscene, EarthVision, Geolog, StratWorks, ArcView, PI/Dwights and some experience with Aries.

PROFESSIONAL GOALS

I currently enjoy working with Union Pacific Resources and its fast paced style of doing business. I would like to work for any aggressive company (foreign or domestic) that is looking for a petroleum geologist. I am an active member in the AAPG, American Association of Drilling Engineers and Ft. Worth Geological Society.
