Jill K. Murray

Welcome to my world!

Hi! I am Jill, a graduate student pursuing a M.S. in Geology at Texas Christian University . I always feel silly writing these web pages because everything I write makes me sound either dull or freaky. I'll try to make this as concise and interesting as I possibly can.

I am originally from Kansas City, Missouri. Most of my family lives in Missouri, so I have strong ties to that state. Since I've been in Texas, I've developed intense pride in Missouri because Texans seem to think their state is better than the rest of the country. I like Texas, but it's no better or worse than anywhere else I've been. I think I developed my "Missouri Pride" to antagonize my Texan friends. Plus, I'm a Chiefs fan, and I get really tired of this Dallas Cowboys nonsense. Anyways, let me get on with the story of who I am.

I did my undergraduate work at the University of Missouri-Columbia (GO TIGERS!). I earned a B.S. in Geological Science with a minor in Spanish. I loved my undergraduate days at Mizzou. I promised by friends I would include some pictures of our undergraduate madness, but I think it might be best if I kept those pictures off the web for the sake of everyone involved. Sorry, guys!

I started graduate school here at TCU with the intent to be an environmental science major. I soon realized that geology was still my driving passion, so during my first semester here, I changed my major back to geology. I am so glad I made that decision. I am teaching three sections of introductory geology labs this semester. I really enjoy teaching labs. My thesis work is going well so far. My thesis is in Big Bend National Park in beautiful Trans-Pecos, Texas. For a full description of my research and how many times I've gotten the geology department vans stuck, check out my thesis page. Another good thing to look at is my resume page, especially if you can employ me.

As far as my interests outside of school, I generally have the typical college student interests--music, beer, and most other things that aren't good for me. I love to be outside doing things like hiking, camping, fishing, caving, and canoeing. I also love going on road trips and just traveling in general. Skiing and fly fishing are two things that I've never done, but I want to learn how to do. I'm a little worried that I don't have enough coordination to do either of them well, but I want to try. I guess that's a brief summary of where I'm at right now in life. To learn more about where I've been and where I want to go in life, check out the following links:
