Who is Jimmy?:
Jimmy is our beautiful
Macaw parrot. He was purchased in Florida and hand raised by my family. Jimmy is about 10 years old, but has a life span of 80+ years! (He's in the will, by-the-way!) He is a crossbreed between Blue-and-Gold (Ara ararauna) and Scarlet (Ara Macao) Macaw parrots.
What do parrots eat?:
Of course there are different recommended diets for different species of birds - but for the most part, Jimmy eats Pretty Bird brand pellets (very colorful!) and most any table scraps. He especially loves chicken bones and green vegetables. It is not a good idea, however, to feed parrots anything high in sodium or sugar; and never give a bird anything carbonated (you've all heard of the seagulls and the alka - seltzer!). Remember, birds have much different metabolisms and cardio-vascular systems than humans.
