COURSE DESCRIPTION:

GRADES:

1st exam: 30%

Final exam: 35%

Lab: 35% (Lab midterm: 12.5%, lab final: 12.5%, Lab exercises: 10%

 

Grade Scale:

A: 90%+

B: 80-89%

C: 70-79%

D: 60-69%

F: <60%

 

EXAM FORMAT: Expect a thorough examination on all aspects of the topics which I introduce you to. Anticipate short essay questions, labelling diagrams and describing photographs and drawings.

LAB WORK: Almost all the lab work you do will be graded and used in my assessment of your final grade. (Some of this work may involve a homework element). Completion of homework is mandatory. Any assignment not completed to my satisfaction and according to my timetable will result in a loss of 2% of your total grade.

FIELD TRIP: There will be a one-day mandatory field trip. Data collected on this trip will be analyzed in lab.

OTHER FACTORS:

1. Be familiar with University regulations regarding academic dishonesty. I will apply them.
2. Not all of us are equally gifted and unfortunately hard work does not necessarily equate to achievement. Consequently I must and will protect the integrity of my grading scale.
3. However, be assured that I will respond to your problems as speedily and effectively as I can. I encourage you to visit with me (whether or not you are having problems). Remember any course is a symbiotic relationship between teacher and student: we are both at our best when we relate effectively to each other.
