A study of the physical environment of the planet Earth, its makeup, the processes that mould its surface features and an introduction to the resources that it provides. Class Attribute/UCR: Physical & Life Science Lab GRADING: Your grade will be based on the results of two lecture exams (25% each), a final exam (25%), and your performance in lab (25%). Letter grades for the courses will be assigned as follows: A = 90-100%, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%, D = 60-69%, F = 0-59%. ATTENDANCE -YOUR RESPONSIBILITY: It is in your best interest to attend class. My past experience has shown that students who do not attend class tend to do poorly on exams. I'm not joking, you won't do as well if you don't come to class, even if your a cerebral egghead with an IQ approaching infinity. You may not believe this but ROCKS CAN BE FUN! MY RESPONSIBILITY TO YOU: I am here to help, as well as teach, and I look forward to meeting you. Please ask questions during class, and do not hesitate to see me out of class. Remember that if you don't know the answer, there is no such thing as a dumb question! Although reading your textbook should answer most questions, I AM HERE TO HELP IN ANY WAY I CAN. I enjoy teaching, which means that I enjoy meeting you, so don't be shy! Before each exam, I give a review lecture: be there!! Furthermore copies of the slides that I use are available for preview in my room: I strongly recommend that you look at them. Copies of previous tests (not the final) are on reserve in the library. DROPPING: According to University policy, you have up to 6 weeks to drop the class. Be aware of the set drop dates for each semester. LABORATORY: Your Lab grade is determined by a Departmental teaching assistant. She/he will give you two 100 point tests plus 10 point quizzes at the conclusion of each lab. If you are not in lab you will receive a score of zero for the quiz. However, if you have an excused absence, you may make up the lab (and quiz) on a Saturday morning at 9 - 11 AM on the dates announced.
FINAL EXAM: If you have 3 or more finals in a 24 hour period, we can negotiate a change in the scheduled date. In addition, please note that, should you find yourself in a situation during the semester when you do not feel you will do as well as you can in an exam, I am prepared to work with you in a sympathetic fashion.
