Many Biology majors at TCU are interested in attending medical, dental, or some other health professions school (more information is available at TCU’s Pre-Health Professions Program). Other students are interested in careers in academia or simply want to learn more about the exciting work going on in biology.

The Biology Department offers two undergraduate degrees: the Bachelor of Arts (BA) and the Bachelor of Science (BS). Both degrees have five required courses (two semesters of General Biology, Ecology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Introduction to Biological Research) followed by upper-level Biology electives, thus allowing students to focus on different subdisciplines of biology after first receiving a comprehensive overview of the field. Hallmarks of the program include: i) extensive interactions between faculty and students that result from the fact that faculty teach all upper-level lectures and laboratories; ii) excellent facilities, which benefited from a multi-million dollar renovation of Winton Scott Hall in 2002; and iii) research opportunities in which undergraduates work directly with faculty, resulting in frequent presentations and awards (see Undergraduate Research for more details).
