Big Bend River Tours
WARNING - A number of maps, including some within official publications, have been published with incorrect park boundaries. For a while, even the big 3-D model at Panther Junction had the boundaries wrong and it still seems to indicate that the park boundary includes a large private ranch. This is WRONG!!
At one point it was very incorrect, but the Big Bend Map at GORP is now partially correct. If you look at the GORP map, you see a thin green line just south of the Rosillos Mountain label that encloses an unlabelled yellow area. This yellow area is actually the more than 25,000 acre, private, Pitcock Rosillos Mountain Ranch. Only about half of the Rosillos Mountains are actually in Big Bend National Park. This map, along with the 'official map' seem to include this private property within the park boundary - implying that in some way the national park has a claim on the ranch. Nothing could be further from the truth and this 'pseudo boundary' that has been replicated on several maps is a total fiction.
So.. if you plan to go hiking in the northern part of BBNP pay close attention to any fences you run across - they may actually be the border to private property.

Below are a growing number of Big Bend pictures I have taken over many years. Currently the pictures are arranged 4 to a page; just click below to look at them. When I get the chance I will add captions and perhaps index them. All images appear best when viewed in 16- or 24-bit color.
